Changing to the Japan Fukuoka Mission

In February of 2010, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints published this statement to let its members know of changes happening in the Mission Field. Paul's mission, the Japan Hiroshima Mission, was one of the missions affected by this change. This is another article about the change to his mission. As of the first of July 2010, he is a part of the Japan Fukuoka Mission.

*As a side note, I stumbled upon Paul's new Mission President's blog where they have pictures of their missionaries. I don't know if there are any pictures of Paul, but I thought it was neat to see his mission from a different perspective!

Battle Buddies

So I just got a call from one of my battle buddies from training, Private Hammond. It made me miss the Army life even more than I already do. It's hard to describe, but there's just something wonderful about it- mostly the relationships you form with those you serve with. It probably has to do with the fact that I'm the youngest in my family with three older sisters, NO brothers. So when I was put into an environment with 69 other guys living in the same room, it was like my need for brotherhood was finally filled. Yeah, I've gained brothers through other venues, but there's something different and special about the ones I gained in the Army. Maybe it's our purpose, maybe it's the hardships we endured and overcame with each other. I'm guessing it's both. No matter what the case may be, I am so grateful for my brothers. No one ever has to be alone, and this is especially true in my case (even though I was one of three active members of the church, and felt alone at times.) Life is good.

By the way, I've updated my music player. You can now choose which songs you want to listen to. I hope you take time to listen to the track that inspired all of this "Life in Technicolor". You might not find it amazing, but really, it's exactly how I feel. I'm still living in technicolor. . . :)

Oh man, that's exactly how I feel about my mission. I miss it like crazy, especially the relationships I gained with those I served. I feel ya man. Maybe not exactly the same...but somewhat.

Paul, you're just awesome. I'm grateful for people like you who are so willing to serve our country and love it!

"Lord of the Rings" Relates to Missionary Work

J.R.R. Tolkien, in The Fellowship of the Rings, wrote this:

"The road must be trod, but it will be very
hard. And neither strength nor wisdom will
carry us far upon it. This quest may be
attempted by the weak with as much hope as
the strong. Yet it is oft the course of deeds
that move the wheels of the world: Small hands
do them because they must, while the eyes of
the great are elsewhere."

Alma 37:6 -- "Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness
in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple
things are great things brought to pass; and small means
in many instances doth confound the wise."

By small and simple efforts, the young missionaries of the
church really can "confound the wise" and help the kingdom
roll forth!
